Jerry is being inducted for his contributions to GCSOA as a referee, mentor, assignor, officer and administrator. Jerry has been involved in soccer over 50 years. He got his start as a youth player before his career as a referee, assignor, administrator and officer. His passion for soccer took off as a youth player in the LESL junior program with the Ukrainian American Soccer Club in the late 1960’s. As Jerry’s playing career entered the twilight, he joined the local referee association GCSOA, and remains there, in a limited capacity. Jerry has been a member of OHSAA for over 35 years, refereed in 4 State Finals, and was a member of the inaugural Certified Assigning Program. Jerry later recruited Wayne Wilson and Jim Elmore as assignors. He was also a member of NISOA for 20 years and a founding member of NOCSOA. Jerry served many years as the NOCSOA assignor and 1 term as President. Jerry was a supplemental official in the MISL and NPSL for over 10 years. He coordinated the assignments of the other supplemental officials and was responsible for the traveling floor referees when in town.
Jim is being inducted for his contributions to GCSOA as a referee, mentor, assessor, assignor, and board member. Jim was involved in soccer in the Cleveland area for more than 20 years. He served on the Executive Board for more than 10 years in multiple capacities, was a mentor to many young referees on the east side of Cleveland, officiated for more than 2 decades, and was, perhaps, most well-known for his years as an assignor. Jim touched countless lives throughout his life through his selflessness and dedication to helping GCSOA referees. The success of many referees from the east side can be directly attributed to Jim’s efforts over the course of his career. Jim’s impact on the GCSOA community can still be felt today, years after his passing.
Norman is being inducted for his contributions to GCSOA as a referee, mentor, assessor, instructor, and board member. Norman was involved in GCSOA for more than 20 years. As a board member, he was one of the founders of GCSOA and helped write the original bylaws for the organization. Norman served on the board for several years in multiple capacities. While he spent more than 2 decades officiating, he also spent 20 years as an instructor and assessor. During his time as an assessor, Norman spent 6 as a National Assessor, mentoring and advising some of the nation’s top referees. Norman’s love for sports did not end with refereeing. Norman’s son, Kyle, a former GCSOA referee, is a well-known staple at high school sports around the Cleveland area. His company, Ohio SportsNet films players and teams for highlight reels for college sports recruiting efforts. Norman’s love for the game has extended past referees and can be felt by former, current, and future high school student-athletes.
